Endangered A Joe Pickett Novel C J Box Books

WOW. Just when I thought C.J. Box was at the top of his game, he tops himself! Writing doesn't get any better than this.

C. J. Box weaves an amazing story line with Joe Pickett and his family and good friend Nate Romanowski. There are a few story lines going on at the same time, but due to Mr. Box's ability to weave them all together you are in for one heck of a story. If you are a follower of the Joe Pickett series you will find yourself visiting an old friend and you drop right into the story as if you were there. Lots of emotions in this book and of course lots of action and suspense. As usual Mr. Box puts the reader right into the story with his way of descriptive writing that you can easily vividly imagine the scene you are reading. I couldn't put this book down once I picked it up and started reading.

If you are a new reader of C. J. Box, Endangered can also be read as a stand alone novel even though it is part of a series of books featuring Joe Pickett. There are not too many authors out there that can write a series and have their books be read as a stand alone as well as be part of a series. But do yourself favor and read the whole series of Joe Pickett novels. Exceptional writing with awesome story lines will keep you engrossed for hours. You will not be disappointed.

And to Mr. Box . . . . . when is your next novel coming out? I can't wait!!

Endangered A Joe Pickett Novel C J Box Books Reviews

I am a fan of C.J. Box and the Joe Pickett series, as demonstrated by the fact that I've read all of them, and bought this one immediately after it's release. If you enjoy stories set in the rural west, and strong descriptions of a wonderful landscapes, you'll enjoy this book and the whole series. I have only one criticism. In this book, as in a a number of the others, the author uses federal land management agents as easy foils to demonstrate the apparently eternal conflict between hapless and venal federal bureaucrats ( who can't be fired and all come from the East) and the the stalwart, honest and intelligent natives of Wyoming. In this book, one of the supporting villains is the member of a federal sage grouse protection team, who exterminates a sage grouse lek, thus getting the story rolling. Permissible yes, but too remedial a solution for a writer of this calibre, particularly when repeatedly used.
I love Wyoming and I love this series of books by author Box. I've read all of this author's offerings - standalone and this series - and he's one author I pre-order every time I see he has another book coming out.

Joe Pickett is always running into bad situations but this time his family is involved. His almost-adoptive daughter April is found dumped alongside the road, beaten badly. And Joe is hellbent on finding out who did this heinous act, meanwhile praying for April's recovery.

Like most of Box's books, there is more than one storyline and the action is very fast-paced. And the bad guys are particularly nasty this time around.

You can read this as a standalone but if you haven't read the Joe Pickett series, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning and savor each one.
This was my first Joe Pickett novel. I did enjoy it and could see that having read previous novels would have given the reader a better background on the characters. Not that that seemed necessary.
It was good but I was disappointed in how suddenly everything was all wrapped up in a simple package. Most of the good people survived with out too many problems. I found this a little too simple. I wondered if previous novels were similar. Sometimes I think authors must get tired of the same protagonist novel after novel and after many books they tend to disappoint.
I had problems believing that April survived without any complications, I also had problems with Nate and how he was able to be in the right place at the right time considering his condition and how he connects with Liv in the time frame and how he was able to call her when she had lost her cell phone etc.
All in all I will try to get the earlier novels and follow this character to see if I like the previous books better. It was good enough to persue that venue
I will not take the time to write about the plot and storyline, as you can read this in the book description or in other reviews. Box continues to demonstrate his knack of satisfying long time readers while giving sufficient 'back story' to those new to this series. I did have one minor disappointment, which unfortunately many of the current mystery writers engage in. Using 'Endangered' as an illustration, Box uses most of the narrative laying out a very complex series of characters and events, which is great. However, as I see with some of my other favorite mystery writers, there is a tendency to 'cram' a great deal of facts and events into the final few pages, which always leaves me wanting. As someone that has read the entire Joe Pickett series, I am a loyal reader and can't wait for the next book to be released. But in this case, I would have liked to see Mr. Box use more pages (and depth of discussion) to describe the ending, and tie up all the loose ends. But even with that, I highly recommend 'Endangered'.
